Happy Fish

SUNDAY, September 13, 2015 Day 9

A busy day with Prisca’s father, pastor David. I did not expect him to take care of me the whole time I was here but was glad of it, as I really would not feel safe on my own here. After. Little breakfast, we headed out! He drives an old truck; I think he said 1981 but badly in need of repairs. First thing the front tire was flat and he drove to the closest gas station to put air into it..seems a regular task. Then we headed on the road to visit a daughter and her family, but although she and her hubby had headed to Pureto Plata, other family members were at home and welcomed us. We then left there to go to the National Aquarium, which was pretty impressive. We spent a couple of hours walking around there and after thinking how cross most of the fish looked, I was excited to find a smiling one and took its photo!!!I like “happy”! We returned to the Chinese restaurant we visited last night, which seems to be a very popular spot and I tried politely to suggest we would share one plate but he ordered 2 and I did not enjoy it..I struggled to eat the bit I ate, as it seems it was filled with oysters and other strange fish parts that I could not even chew!!! So the 2nd plate came back to his place and I struggled with bits of it for supper later on! It had started to rain and you could not see out the windshield and I mentioned turning on the wipers, so he reached for an old wiper on the dash and rolled down the window and reached to the windshield to clear it a bit while driving!!! Horns were honking and cars and scooters zipping all around and I was really scared!!! He does a lot of crazy U-turns and other manoeuvres …seat belts are required but unusable. Back to his place for a bit before his church service at 5:00.. Church and house are one. 3 others showed up. Soon after 6:30 we headed out walking, thank goodness, to a neighbour’s and they were so hospitable and loved the grandma of 23…lucky grandma! Soon home, managed to eat some of the food and into my room to get ready for departure at 7:00 am for the bus station, to catch the bus to Port au Prince in HAITI..not sure when I will have access to any wifi after this..image

Enjoy your travels and the smiling fish. The “Happy” fish photo may come in handy for an unhappy child in Haiti. 🙂
