A Day In Pompeii

Another glorious day here in Vico Equense. Blue skies and wall to wall sunshine and nice hot temperatures. Love it! Also love the beautiful red poppies that I noticed and took photos of in Rome and Naples and here as well, all along the roadside. One thing that is not good along the roadside, though, is the garbage everywhere. Rather startling and sad to see as it contrasts with all the natural beauty. Today we had a very interesting day. First we went to a sports place in the city of Pompeii where Steph was able to purchase tickets for he, Sean and Trevor for a soccer game in Naples on Sunday night between Milan and Naples which the boys are very excited about. After a coffee shop stop for pastries and a beverage, we visited the old ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii caused by the volcano eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.  We walked for almost 4 hours around the ruins. Incredible to see the old city wiped out by the molten ash and all the lives lost.  We then took a drive up to Mt. Vesuvius and may take time to take a better visit to the mountain and crater another day. Back to Vico Equense and our daily visit to a famous gelato place called Gabrielle’s which is one of the most famous places for gelato and other sweets in the whole Naples district. Each day we select a special Italian pasty to take home for dessert at supper as well. A swim at the private beach within a 5 minute walk from our villa and a delicious supper and soccer drills for Sean by Trevor; some board games and off to bed early again for another busy day tomorrow.
