Fear and Loathing in Nagoya

June 7, 2012

Kazuho left for work early and I got Liam and Trevor up at 9:00 am and we headed down to the lovely French bakery not too far away to get some delicious breads fresh from the baker’s oven.  When we got back we put on the movie Borat and laughed our heads off. We have all watched it before and it is a pretty offensive movie but you have to give Sasha Baron Cohen credit for his zany humour. Liam is so good at imitating him. We had fun. Then we all headed downtown by metro and he took us to a cool area of the city calloed Osu, a famous shopping district here. We don’t shop but love people watching. I really love the outfits the girls wear over here in Asia, generally. If a girl in Ottawa walked down the street in some of the  outfits the girls wear here,  it would look inappropriate and seductive but here they all just look gorgeous!! Most girls are so slim and they wear the most stylish high heel shoes and really short skirts and they all seem to have gorgeous legs!! They do not wear skimpy or sexy tops. I think they look classy!! Liam left us to go to work. As well as finishing his thesis for his masters on his Japanese scholarship, he works 2 jobs. One at the French restaurant and one at a school teaching English. Trevor and I walked and walked and walked and just enjoyed the beautiful, sunny day with the nice breeze. We visted a beautiful temple and a shrine and then discovered the area called Sagae, a huge shopping district where they have what they call the Champs-Elysees of Nagoya; the Hollywood Walk of Stars; Central Park. Also the Nagoya Tower which looks like it is a copy of the Eiffel Tower. Hmmm.. we have been to all of these places in their countries of origin and they are nothing like “the real thing”! But again, pretty nice to see a huge park oasis wih nice fountains in the city core. Back to Liam’s and again a lovely supper cooked by Kazuho. I had stopped back in to the French bakery and picked up the most delicious lemon tarts for dessert and then we watched the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, starring Johnny Depp. This movie is based on the autobiographical novel by Hunter S. Thompson which is a blend of fact and fiction and is known as gonzo journalism, which Trevor and I have both read and enjoyed. Then bedtime!!ImageImage
