Am I Dreaming? May 19

May 22, 2012

Last night Suzy met us at Starbucks and our adventure with her began. She is a 21 year old accounting student who lives on campus, but has a flat for weekends. She recently discovered couchsurfing and loves welcoming travellers to her place. She took us to the Big Goose Pagoda, about a 30 minute bus ride from the city centre. ( Only 15 cents..cheaper even than the bus in Nicaragua!)This temple was built around 648 AD by a Tang Dynasty emperor when he was crown prince, in memory of his deceased mother. It was an unforgettable evening. I cannot possibly put into words all the incredible sights we enjoyed; absolutely stunning and one of the most impressively beautiful man-made areas I have seen anywhere. And, like very other night since we have arrived in Xi’an, hundreds of people of all ages dancing in one of the big squares; line dancing and waltzing until late into the night. So wonderful to witness this. Trevor and I were stopped for about the fourth time today and asked if our pictures could be taken. We feel so special! Back to Suzy’s and in the morning we got up early to go to the History Museum preceded by breakfast Chinese style. Let me say the porridge was not what I expected! After saying goodbye to our gracious host, we set off for Xiguan airport and flew to Beijing on a very turbulent flight and I was so scared! I  hate flying! We bussed and metroed to our new CS host Lydia’s, a lovely Chinese girl in her late 20s who shares a flat with 3 others. We ordered in Chinese food and it was delicious!!!We are excited to visit The Great Wall; Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It all seems like a dream.
